Position Summary:
The Bilingual Placement Specialist at iSVA plays a vital role in promoting student success by providing academic planning services. The Bilingual Placement Specialist will work closely and provide exceptional customer service in English and Spanish to Counselors, students, parents, teachers, and administrators to support student development. Through transcript analysis, academic advising, and responding to identified needs in the department through project-based services, the Bilingual Placement Specialist will support the academic mission at iSchool Virtual Academy.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
- Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
- Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency; business college training)
Experience
- Two years of experience in academic advising, recordkeeping and maintenance of student records in a public school environment (preferred).
- At least 2-5 years of experience in a customer service role (preferred).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Fluent in English and Spanish; both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrates the ability to respond accurately and effectively to written communication.
- Follows through with verbal and written agreements with students, colleagues, and administration.
- Exhibit empathy for students and willingness to go above and beyond to problem solve a student's situation.
- Ability to maintain professional behavior in stressful situations.
- Adjust quickly to changing priorities or conditions.
- Proficient computer skills and comfort with technology are necessary in the virtual work environment.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google applications.
- Previous experience in a virtual/remote position (preferred).
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
- Demonstrates the ability to be self-directed in order to maintain productive work days in the virtual workplace
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Accurately reviews academic records to maintain accuracy in transcript entry and scheduling.
- Manages assigned programs and projects independently including initial setup, communication, and program maintenance.
- Conference calls with families and students to assist in developing graduation plans that are individualized for each student.
- Accurately and consistently update information regarding a student's schedule, graduation plan, and post high school plans in the appropriate platforms.
- Demonstrate ownership and responsibility for your assigned caseload of students to ensure that schedules are accurate and students stay on track for graduation
- Ensure that all academic records are received from prior districts in order to develop an accurate graduation plan for each student.
- Assume responsibility for follow up when records are missing or incomplete for a student.
- Ensures all communication is returned and delivered in a timely manner to parents, students, colleagues, and supervisors.
- Documents communication with students and parents in the required format and platform in a timely manner in order to provide effective communication to your colleagues.
- Supports standardized testing programs, parent education, and staff development.
- Meets deadlines provided by superiors. Engages in training opportunities for educational growth.
- Continues to extend knowledge and training in technology and counseling topics.
- Attends staff meetings, professional development, and other school related activities as assigned throughout the year.
- Assists with gathering and tracking data for projects including At-Risk, testing roster, graduation plans, endorsement selection, and student course selections.
- Provides a support system that strengthens the efforts of counselors, administrators, teachers, staff, and parents.
- Provide support to the department with regards to packing/shipping graduation materials.
- Support the planning process/attend graduation ceremony for iSVA graduating class.
- All other duties as assigned.
